Yocto 3.0 on DragonBoard 410c Issue

Hello everyone,

We built the latest 96boards/oe-rpb-manifest branch ‘qcom/zeus’ commit [2dc473fece0408614feeac530bf44f380dddd2b7] and installed boot and rootfs images on our board. It seems that the mmcblk0p14 could not be mounted. But branch qcom/warrior commit [72bcd3a03878e60c2d91558d3daeefc19b5d1ebf] works fine.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

There are the information:

Little Kernel (emmc_appsboot.mbn) build from latest Linaro working/qualcomm/lk.git branch ‘release/LA.BR.1.2.7-03810-8x16.0’ commit 0a10f81d847e005244cfa59d7f4dd8c6acfd82f6
db-boot-tools (gpt_both0.bin) build from latest Linaro working/qualcomm/db-boot-tools.git branch ‘master’ commit 5a7a50613e9d90d45a88e9046e28f10d8d68ce3b
bootloaders packages come from dragonboard-410c-bootloader-emmc-linux-110.zip, but replace emmc_appsboot.mbn and gpt_both0.bin with our built files.

Because I am a newcomer, there are two hyperlinks allowed.
I add the Little Kernel and db-boot-tools hyperlinks

Item Commit
Development environment Ubuntu 18.04.03 x64 Desktop
Little Kernel (emmc_appsboot.mbn) build from latest Linaro working/qualcomm/lk.git branch ‘release/LA.BR.1.2.7-03810-8x16.0’ commit 0a10f81d847e005244cfa59d7f4dd8c6acfd82f6 (Link: https: //git.linaro.org/landing-teams/working/qualcomm/lk.git/commit/?h=release/LA.BR.1.2.7-03810-8x16.0&id=0a10f81d847e005244cfa59d7f4dd8c6acfd82f6)
db-boot-tools (gpt_both0.bin) build from latest Linaro working/qualcomm/db-boot-tools.git branch ‘master’ commit 5a7a50613e9d90d45a88e9046e28f10d8d68ce3b (Link: https: //git.linaro.org/landing-teams/working/qualcomm/db-boot-tools.git/commit/?id=5a7a50613e9d90d45a88e9046e28f10d8d68ce3b)
bootloaders packages come from dragonboard-410c-bootloader-emmc-linux-110.zip, but replace emmc_appsboot.mbn and gpt_both0.bin with our built files.

Do you reproduce the same with one of our prebuilt snapshot: http://snapshots.linaro.org/96boards/dragonboard410c/linaro/openembedded/zeus/latest/rpb-wayland/

@alimon, is it a known issue?

i think you need to flash the latest bootloader release from:https://snapshots.linaro.org/96boards/dragonboard410c/linaro/rescue/135/

we’ve made changes to the GPT recently, and they will all be included in the next release. But if you use zeus, then you need to use the pre-release (snapshots) bootloader.

Alternatively, you can change QCOM_BOOTIMG_ROOTFS to mmcblk0p10 in meta-qcom/conf/machine/dragonboard-410c.conf.

Since you’re clearly discussing things that are very much on topic I have boosted your trust level slightly (which should relax most of the typing speed and link limit traps).

Dear Danielt,

Thank you for your help.

Dear Loic,

Sorry for replying late.

Yes, I check the commit checksum in the folder ‘.repo/manifests’. It’s the same as yours.

If I use your Kernel and rootfs image, Kernel panic occurs during the boot process.

I do some more tests. My reproduced images work fine on the branches qcom/morty, qcom/sumo, qcom/thud, and qcom/warrior with the corresponding bootloader packages. It failed on the branch qcom/zeus only.
It seems that the rootfs from qcom/zeus have some problems. There are two clues
(1) The rootfs image from the branch qcom/warrior works fine with both Kernel image (qcom/warrior and qcom/zeus).

Yocto 2.7 reproduced rootfs Yocto 3.0 snapshot rootfs
Yocto 2.7 reproduced Kernel ok [log] failed [log]
Yocto 3.0 snapshot Kernel ok [log] failed [log]

(2) The rootfs image from the branch qcom/zeus comparing with the one from the branch qcom/warrior is too small after using sparse output format.

Dear ndec,

Thank you for your suggestion. I use latest bootloader package you provided and prebuilt latest qcom/zeus snapshot Loic provided, and it still gets Kernel panic. But latest bootloader package works fine with reproduced Kernel and rootfs images from the branch qcom/warrior.
Because both branches qcom/zeus and qcom/warrior use mmcblk0p14 as rootfs partition, qcom/warrior works fine with the rootfs partition on mmcblk0p14. I think this issue has nothing to do with partition table. Unless the rootfs building from the branch qcom/zeus will use the data in the new partitions.
Please correct me kindly if there are any mistakes. Thank you so much.
