I have recently bought Hikey970 board. I would like to know what are the supported IDE’s to run a sample Hello World program. I have another question. The desktop environment in the provided Ubuntu 16.04 is Light Weight Desktop Environment. Can we use GNOME or KDE in the Hikey970?
There is no particular recommended IDE for Hikey970. You are free to select whatever works best for you. Eclipse is a fairly common choice and is very flexible. Having said that Eclipse is also quite resource intensive and requires quite a bit of care to set up optimally.
Running GNOME or KDE is certainly possible but, assuming on OpenGL ES is h/ware accelerated it is likely they would have to fallback to software emulation to get full OpenGL and this would be very slow.
