Installing 4x16GB dimms does not work

Installing 16GB dimms did not work for me. The system powered on, but displayed no video and did not boot.

I have the Synquacer desktop config from Chip1stop:

Booting with the 4G dimm works fine, however:

  • 4x 16GB dimms = no video
  • 2x 16GB dimms (slots 2 and 4) = no video
  • 1x 16GB dimm (slot 2) = no video

memory: Crucial 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Server Memory Model CT4K16G4RFD4213

All help is welcome. Thank you.

Hi,

Developerbox supports the following 16GB RDIMM.

  • MTA18ASF2G72PDZ-2G3B1RK (Micron 16GB DDR4-2400 RDIMM)
  • TS2GHR72V4B (Transcend 16GB DDR4-2400 RDIMM)

Micron 16GB RDIMM is listed at the following page,
but Developerbox also supports Transcend 16GB RDIMM.

Good find, thank you!

What are the specific required memory properties?

It’s difficult to find the exact memory type listed.

@hramrach

What are the specific required memory properties?

Here is the detailed properties.

  • CL17 @ DDR4-2400/PC4-19200
  • (1Gb x8) x 9 chip x 2 Rank
  • 1.2V

If the DDR4-2400 DIMM is difficult to find,
“CL22 @ DDR4-3200/PC4-25600” is also likely to work as down-clocked at 2400Mtps, however, we have not verified DDR4-3200 DIMM and do not guarantee it will work.
