Down/sidegrade to armhf

With only 1g of ram and more software in the 32 bit arm repos, I think I’d rather run 32 bit debian. Is there a recommended way to switch arch?

There is no recommended way but if it were me then I would probably just boot from SD card before nuking the rootfs on the eMMC and using debootstrap to generate a new one.

Of course that’s mostly because I’m lazy. If you want to replicate on multiple boards it would be better to copy the CI jobs we use to build the images and tweak the settings to replicate our builds using armhf:
