Is it the same process used to install either the developer or boot image - i.e. put ‘img’ file onto sd card, set the boot config and install to flash…

The release notes indicate that following images are available:
boot image that includes prebuilt kernel and initrd
developer image that includes core packages as well as typical development packages (headless)
alip image that includes a minimal desktop environment GUI using LXDE

yes, but only if you use the latest release from last week. that’s one the change introduced in that release. You can mount the SD card on your PC, and change the rootfs.img file directly. Note that you can also create another folder , e.g. ‘debian-dev’ and then you should see both debian and debian-dev listed in the GUI.

I am trying the lastest image (144) from here: http://builds.96boards.org/releases/dragonboard410c/linaro/debian/latest/

but it will not boot into the install image… It gets to switch on a hdmi monitor but I never see the normal install dialog…

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:

  • Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
    • Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
    • Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
  • Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

hmm. it looks like the SD card is not detected by the kernel, at all.

do you know which board version/rev do you have?

can you confirm that SD install image from the previous release worked fine?

Its a ‘home grown’ board based on Intrinic 410 SOM.

Previous images have worked fine on it.

( I will also test with a Dragonboard )

the kernel on the SD card is very different from the previous images. So far we were still using the 4.0 based kernel we used at launch, which was using a lot of downstream drivers from Android kernel… so it is very well possible that the current kernel wouldn’t detect your SD card now, you might need some specific device tree config for example.

I tried the ‘latest’ image on dragonboard and it works fine.

I guess I might be better off building my own image ? I really just want a ‘headless’ image

Just an update.

I have my custom board booting now. (It basically just the 410 SOC, some GPIOs, UART and CSI(cam), audio broken out. Very nice small size ;-0, runs on battery (for a while at least))

As it is a true embedded system = I have not any DSI/HDMI/ADV733 hardware so it seems to stop booting at that point of the kernel boot i.e. probing for some display or DSI hardware.

My plan is to build a kernel without DSI support — can I just disable DSI support in KConfig ?

before you get into customizing the kernel, what you really need is to make a proper DTS/DTB file for your board. You are probabliy using the db410c dtb file which is a very bad thing. If your board doesn’t have display (or anything else), you should remove the corresponding nodes from device tree file.

if the kernel still crashes after your remove the node, then this is a bug that we will need to fix.

This booted correctly. Console (via UART) works fine. Most of devices seem ok…

b) Modified the apq8016-sbc.dtsi file
Modified to remove adv_bridge and references.
rebuilt dt.img, repackage and reboot

This also booted correctly !
