Dead RT2515H regulator

I don’t know if this is a new one or not, but on one of my Hikey960’s (I own 3), which has been exhibiting boot instability problems for several months, suddenly a couple of nights ago, lost all wireless and USB. The schematic identified the RT2515H as the only thing in common (although it also relates to the HDMI, which continued to function…). Sure enough, the RT2515H had 5V coming in, and 0V coming out.

So now I’ve got 3 wires soldered onto the legs of that chip and running to one of these;

… boot stability problems appear to be solved.
Box of RT2515H’s now on the slow boat.
Funny that just a couple of weeks ago, I finally decided to buy a hot air rework station, which will be needed to melt the solder from the thermal pad.

To a developer with a hot air rework station everything looks like it needs reworking?

(I know… this really does need rework… very best of luck)

Well, that was a nerve wracking repair.
But it worked :slight_smile:
This hikey960 has been reborn.

Great to hear!

One day I shall have to get a rework station… on the other hand, right now, I have a colleague ten minutes away who is a much better wiresman than I ever expect to be and he is already fully armed in this regard.
