Power supply for HiKey board

I just realized that the power supply for HiKey seem to use a male jack, what is the recommended accessory for this so I can plug it into a North American wall socket?

I’ve tried FSP060-DBAE1-1 which provides 12V at a maximum of 5A. But the HiKey board does not turn on.

Actually I have managed to turn it on with my power supply but it seems the adapter connection is sketchy. Also if I do not have Pin1-2 connected, the power on button has no effect.

Hi @quantumlight,

This is common problem.
The FSP060-DBAE1-1 has a DC plug for outer diameter 5.5mm and a 2.5mm center barrel (5.5/2.5).
But the DC plug converter included in the LaMaker HiKey is converting from 5.5/2.1 to 4.75/1.7 EIAJ-3 plug.

Your 5.5/2.5 fits into 5.5/2.1 jack but it will have week connection on the center pin and it will behave unstable.

Please use the AC adapter which has 5.5/2.1 DC plug.
Or you may able to solder the 5.5/2.1 DC plug on your AC adapter, and please be careful the 12V should be connect to center pin and not outer. Other wise the HiKye will burn.

This AC adapter has 5.5/2.1 DC plug.

More details are described here too.

Is there a 2.5 to 2.1 mm adapter or 2.5 to 1.7mm adapter you recommend? I am from Canada, so sometimes (e.g. the power supply you listed) do not deliver across the border.

Hi @quantumlight

I understand, even AC adapter in US physically usable in Japan, since the plug of wall socket and voltage is
almost identical, it still not permitted to use it in Japan since Japan uses PSE certification instead of UL in US.

I never saw the converter from 5.5/2.5 to 4.75/1.7, I only see 5.5/2.1 to 4.75/1.7 converter which does not work for you.

How about these AC adapter.

These have 12V 2A and 5.5/2.1 plug.
